Education

Religious Education

Our children, Kindergarten through-8th grade, are ministered to and served by catechists each Sunday from mid- September through April in a Diocesan approved program. Sessions are held at Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic School from 10:00 a.m. – 11:15 a.m. In addition, an adult faith enrichment program is offered for parents while children are in their classes. Newly registered families who wish their children to participate in our religious education program should call Nancy Groves, Coordinator of Religious Education, 410-208-2854 for an appointment.

Catholic Education Scholarship Fund

St. John Neumann Parish is very pleased to offer an opportunity for our youth to receive a Catholic Education through the Saint John Neumann Catholic Education Scholarship Fund.  Scholarship applications are accepted from Parish families and those youth who are sponsored by an active member of our church.  Its mission is to provide tuition assistance for religious education programs and Catholic schools. Scholarships are funded through the sale of shopping cards as well as special funding activities during the year.  Direct donations to the Scholarship Fund are always welcomed.

Sacramental Preparation
First Reconciliation, First Eucharist, and Confirmation

Sacramental Preparation classes are in addition to the regular participation in the weekly religious education classes or Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic School and are attended by both parent and child. Attendance at all classes as well as faith guidance at home is necessary for the proper formation of the students. Building a strong foundation of our Roman Catholic faith is the main goal of our collective efforts.

Children must be enrolled in a Religious Education Program prior to the reception of a sacrament.  This education must be continuous from Kindergarten.  If this is not the case then some additional religious instruction might be necessary prior to the reception of the Sacrament. Children in the 2nd grade celebrate First Reconciliation in the Fall and First Holy Communion in the Spring.  Confirmation Sessions begin in the Fall of the 9th grade and this Sacrament is celebrated by the Bishop in the Fall of the 10th grade.  Children must be registered for Confirmation Sessions.

Christian Formation Committee

This committee, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, provides a framework for promoting our Catholic faith and Christian values to our parishioners as well as welcoming all interested persons. Under the leadership of the Coordinator of Religious Education, catechists provide clear, meaningful, continuing, and consistent programs relative to the needs of the Parish. We strive to enable, enrich, and encourage all segments of our Parish family to find, strengthen, and nurture not only our individual but also our communal relationship with God and one another. If you are interested in joining this committee please contact Nancy Groves at 410-208-2854.

Adult Faith Formation

Adult faith formation is the center of all of our catechetical efforts.  Keeping God in focus throughout our life’s journey is the aim of the Catholic Church.  Every day we gain more knowledge of the world around us.  How it affects our faith life is an important insight.  In our parish, a yearly program is planned to relate the teachings of Christ to every aspect of life.  It includes a parish day of spiritual reflection, evenings of lecture and discussion on current national and international issues, social justice teachings of the church, various subjects relating to the Catholic faith, and a trip to a place of religious significance in our region.

Adult Faith Formation also includes ongoing parish activities such as RCIA, Scripture Study, Charismatic Prayer, and Caregivers’ Support. New participants in any of these programs are most welcome.
