Youth Ministry

The mission of the Youth Ministry Program is to foster the growth of young people in their relationship with Jesus Christ and to draw young people to responsible participation in the life of the parish and local community.

 

The Youth Group invites all teens in 6th through 12th grade. Activities will be posted here and in the bulletin.  Our Senior High teens help prepare each event.  For more information contact Cheri Pearson, Coordinator, through the Parish Office at 410-208-2956.


2010-2011 Youth Group Calendar

Oct 23 Chaos - Jr. High (grades 6-8)
Fun day of games, music, lunch, snacks, T-shirt, and Mass with kids from across the diocese. Fun starts at 10:30 at Immaculate Conception in Wilmington and ends at 4:00. We will leave SJN at 8:30 and return at 6:00. Cleared Chaperones needed. Must RSVP by Friday, October 22. cost $15.
Oct 29 Haunted Hay Ride & Dinner
Meet at SJN at 5 pm for dinner and carpool to Parsonsburg Fire House at 6:00 returning at 9:30. Cleared Chaperones needed.  Must RSVP by Wednesday, Oct. 27. cost $7.
Nov 7 One Spirit, One Church - Sr. High (grades 9-12)
Keynote and Concert with Aaron Thompson and Mass with Bishop Malooly.  Fun starts at 10:30 till 4:30 at Padua Academy in Wilmington. We will leave SJN at 8:30 returning at 6:30. Bus transportation provided.  Must RSVP by Nov. 5. cost $20.

St. John Neumann celebrates Youth Masses where youth serve as Lectors, Musicians, Ushers, Greeters, and Altar Servers.  If you are interested in helping, please contact the Youth Minister, Cheri Pearson.


Service Projects

The Youth participate in Service Projects such as Adopt a Family, Catholic Charities Seton Center Easter Basket Project, Joseph House Crisis Center, Vacation Bible School, and Summer Work Camps.


Social Events & Fundraisers

Social events and fundraisers include activities such as Ski Trips, Pizza Parties, Bowling, Flower Sales, Sub and Bake Sales, and the Annual Catholic Beach Golf Tournament.

Attention Jr. High Students

Can you balance an egg on a light bulb? Or stack Chap Stick using only toothpicks? What about keeping three balloons off the ground for thirty seconds? Get ready for some Chaos at this year’s diocesan day for Jr. High. Plan to join your friends on October 23, 2010 at Immaculate Conception in Elkton, MD. Attention High School Students

Make plans to join your friends at this year’s Diocesan High School youth conference! One Spirit, One Church will be held at Padua Academy on Sunday, November 7, 2010 from 10:30 am – 4:30 pm. This year’s event features musical guest Aaron Thompson. The day features Mass with Bishop Malooly, workshops, keynote/concert, and a free t-shirt for all participants. Registration opens at 10am and the cost is $20 per person (and includes lunch and a snack). For more information, contact Cheri Pearson at 410-208-2956 ext. 212.

   
The 2011 Pilgrimage will be Saturday, April 16, 2011. Last year more than 400 youth and adult joined Bishop Malooly in prayer and song as the cross was carried through the streets of Wilmington.

World Youth Day
August 17-19, 2011, Madrid

The Diocese of Wilmington is sponsoring two pilgrimages to World Youth Day in Madrid during August 2011. The first, a youth pilgrimage, is for those who will graduate from high school in 2011, 2012, and 2013. The second pilgrimage is for young adults (those who will graduate high school in 2010 but not be older than 35 years when WYD occurs in August 2011. For more information, click here.

   

 

National Catholic Youth Conference
November 17-19, 2011, Indianapolis

NCYC is an exciting, biennial three-day experience of prayer, community, and empowerment for Catholic teenagers and their adult chaperones. The schedule includes keynote addresses, concurrent and workshop sessions addressing a wide variety of topics. There are also opportunities for liturgy, reconciliation, prayer and worship, recreation and special activities such as concerts, exhibits, and the interactive thematic park.
